Microsoft to roll out 2 major update each year for Windows Server


Earlier, Microsoft announced that they will deliver 2 major updates to Windows 10 and Office every year. And now they are adding Windows Server to the family. Yes, company officially announced that they will release 2 major update each year to the Windows Server start with this Fall.

Apart from the cumulative update and other patches the major update will bring many new features and improvements. Furthermore, team also announced that the System Center will also be following the same pattern of releasing two major update each Spring and Fall. The Windows Server Standard customers will be automatically getting access to Semi annual Channel releases.

Along with the new update customers will also able to get access of new Windows Server images in Azure or other cloud and hosting environment. Additionally, they mentioned that they are going to remove the functionality for infrastructure roles from Nano Server and recommend customers to deploy the Server Core installation option.

And along with that Server Core will now be included in the Semi-annual Channel. In case if you don’t know Server Core is a headless installation option of the operating system which includes all the roles and features needed to run containerized traditional applications and datacenter servers.
