Microsoft could rename Microsoft Photos to Story Remix

What's in a Name?

At Build 2017, Microsoft announced next major update for Windows 10 aka Fall Creators Update. Fall Creators Update packs with so many new features and enhancement. One of the most exiting feature in Fall Creators Update is Story Remix.

Story Remix feature allow users to create a short video clip right from existing photos and videos. User can add different cinematic transitions effects, text and soundtracks, themes and more. When company first introduced Fall Creators Update we thought there will be a standalone app for that. But somehow Microsoft integrated Story Remix in the Microsoft Photos Windows 10 app. Now we are hearing reports that Microsoft might be renaming the Microsoft Photos app to Story Remix.

Microsoft rolled out a new update to Microsoft Photos app for the Windows Insider in the Skip Ahead ring. So far there is no new feature in this update, it only renames the app to Story Remix. Senior Program Manager at Microsoft on the Windows Insider Program Brandon LeBlanc confirmed this on twitter. He explained “We are actually testing a few different name choices for the Photos app #WindowsInsiders. Naming is not yet final 🤠 Give us feedback!”

Renaming Microsoft Photos to Story Remix means company is working on something new to handle all users photos and album. Since company already working on Story Remix app for the Android and iPhone devices, so this renaming the Photos app might just first sign that something new and exiting is on the way.

In case if you missed it, Story Remix feature won’t be showing up completely with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, some of its functionality will be missing. Many 3D effects and object won’t be available. For example, the ability to import 3D objects and effects.

I would like to prefer standalone app for the Story Remix. What would you prefer? Let us know in a comment below.
