Last Weekend Microsoft rolled out an update to the Microsoft Photos app for the Windows Insider in the Skip ahead ring. The update didn’t bring any new features or any improvements or fixes. It only renamed the app to Story Remix.

Senior Program Manager at Microsoft on the Windows Insider Program Brandon LeBlanc explained that they are testing different name for the Photos app. Later on earlier this week they rolled out another update to the app and the update also changed the name of app to Photos & Videos.

And now another update is rolling out for the Windows Insider in the Skip ahead ring which restore the original name. This little changing name tragedy point out that company is planning something new with the Photos app.

Story Remix feature supposed to have a standalone app is now integrated inside Microsoft Photos app. And now restoring the app now itself revealing that Microsoft could be working on a standalone app for Story Remix. However this will not going to public with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update which is at the final stage of development. Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is scheduled for the September 2017.

In case if you missed it, Story Remix won’t be showing up completely with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, some of its functionality will be missing. Many 3D effects and object won’t be available with Fall Creators Update. If Microsoft working on a standalone app for Story Remix this might be the reason Microsoft restored the name.

It would be great if we have a standalone app for Story Remix functionality. Don’t you think? Let us know in a comment below.
